I must say, life’s not always a bed of roses. But the little things in life do make it worth living.
As the saying goes, “To each, his own.” I feel that for me, besides hugging and kissing my family, arts and crafts have always been my place of enjoyment.
This weekend I washed, carded and spun some wool all by myself!
Still in the middle of that, actually…
I finished off the singles for a spindling project.
After I ply these singles, this spindle will be free for more!
And, I learned how to use up some throw-away bits of fiber by upgrading it.
Carding neppy throw-away wool with alpaca fiber almost broke my heart. But I think this is a nicely textured yarn now. I may use that idea in the future.
Soon, I’ll be knitting something with these.
Not bad, says I.
But one of the best things I did this weekend was get around to see some of the blogs of other crafty folks out there.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that there aren’t places where knitters and spinners are gathering in my area. It’s just that my life is such that I’m not normally able to interact with them. My jobs keep me out most of the day, I have two children (eight years apart and one of which is on the spectrum ) and a spouse that I am re-connecting with at the moment. It gets a little bit hectic. But where I can’t get out, there are so many avenues to connect with others through blogging, that in many ways, blogging has filled those voids. I can’t count how many folks I have come in contact with over this week that are doing the very same things I am doing in their corner of the world. And it feels nice.
Let’s face it. It’s very rare that anyone who knits, knits for themselves 24/7. Oh, we do the occasional knits for ourselves. We behave like we’re being rebellious and selfish when we make something for ourselves. But more often than not, knitting is an act that is shared. We share our handwork and we share our time. It’s nice to knit in company.

- What is your favorite color? Without a doubt, orange.
- What is your favorite animal? I love cats more than any other animal on this earth.
- What is your favorite number? Hmmm….I don’t know that I’ve ever had one. I’ll say 7. It’s such a special number.
- What is your favorite non-alcoholic drink? I think it would have to be any Orange-Ginger tea.
- Do you prefer Facebook or Twitter? Ooohhh…I’m going to make somebody mad here. Between the two of them, I don’t have a favorite. I prefer Tumblr to either of them. Don’t judge me, lol!
- What is your passion? Family and arts and crafts. And sleep.
- Do you prefer getting or giving presents? I honestly love both equally, lol!
- What is your favorite pattern? I think my all time favorite pattern is the Weekend Knitting Fingerless Mitts by Ann Budd. They’re just such a quick gift for anyone. Can be done in a night at a moment’s notice.
- What’s your favorite day of the week? Saturday!! I can make stuff all day long.
- What is your favorite flower? African Violets. They were my grandmother’s favorite.
